Após a decisão de realizar o desembarque a 6, Eisenhower escreve um comunicado a ser difundido em caso de fracasso:
"Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and the troops have been withdrawn. This particular operation"... neste ponto risca as palavras "have been withdrawn. This particular operation", insere "I have withdrawn" antes de "the troops" e continua "My decision to attack at this time and place"...

My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that Bravery and devotion to duty could do.
